Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine to the west. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was short. Brugel was a woman of a certain age living in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." When I outgrew my male partners I stopped. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who shifted into acting. Her teacher from high school was what pushed her in the right direction. It was her teacher who suggested she audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. She auditioned and eventually got the lead of Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and big screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the role as Rita in the acclaimed television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series produced over the course of ten years.
